According to a news release from the style home, this specific collection was “influenced in specific by Joséphine Baker, the African-American vocalist and dancer who left the United States in the mid-1920s for a multi-creative Paris.” For Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, that equated into “delicate pieces, emblematic of Dior’s remarkable savoir-faire” which were presented in “a scenographic story– specifically pictured by artist Mickalene Thomas– made up of huge portraits of extraordinary characters signifying a brand-new pantheon of women.”
