For its Fall 2022 runway show at Paris Fashion Week, Dior offered one of this year’s greatest makeup trends, the clean makeup look, an unforeseen twist. The fashion house’s Imaginative and Image Director, Peter Philips, added a touch of silver eyeshadow to the inner corners of the eyes to light up the models’ look.
While using eye shadow to the inner corners of the eyes isn’t a revolutionary idea, this effect lightens up the whole face, acting as a highlighter. “I wanted to do a very natural, strong look that glorified each woman’s natural beauty,” Philips informed a group of appeal editors post-show over Zoom. “There was no highlighting, contouring, or tricks– simply gorgeous skin, well groomed eyebrows, and a little twist on the eye.”
Adding silver to the inner corners of the eye may be a sure-fire way to brighten up your skin, however it’s likewise a nod to the art work by feminist Italian artist Mariella Bettineschi. The Dior program featured her artwork on the walls of the show, and like the ladies in her art who accentuate their art by controling their look, the designs’ in the show’ did too with a flash of silver.”
Before reaching for the silver eyeshadow, Philips used Dior’s Forever Clean Matte Foundation to best the models’ base. He states this is his foundation of choice since it uses enough protection for problem locations however still has a lightweight, second-skin finish. Then, he curled the lashes (no mascara) and groomed the brows with the Diorshow Kabuki Brow Styler.
To reduce the effects of inflammation around the eye area, Philips swept the guide shade from Dior’s Backstage Custom Eyeshadow Palette in 001 Universal Neutral on the designs’ eyelids. He pressed a flat eye liner brush into the palette’s silver shadow and put it on the inner corners of the eye, going a little outside the eye and a little within. Next, he used a Q-Tip to push and drag the silver down towards the nose.
“If you press the silver up, it will end up being more of an eyeshadow. Including it to the inner corner and dragging it down a bit towards the nose makes it a luminescent area,” adds Philips.
While this silver detail was contributed to the clean makeup appearance, Philips says it can be adjusted to any style of makeup, from smoky eyes to bold blush.
To connect the appearance together, the makeup artist chose the brand-new reformulation of Dior’s Addict high-shine lipstick in 100 Nude Look for the lip. The line includes a range of neutral shades, from brick red to beige.
